BIOSKETCH

I am a Consultant Physician / Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist at the Federal Teaching Hospital Ido-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. I am also a Senior Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ekiti State University Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.
I graduated from the prestigious College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria with MBBS degree in 2005 and had my Residency Training in General Internal Medicine at the Federal Teaching Hospital Ido-Ekiti, Ekiti State and my Gastroenterology Sub-specialty training at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex Ile-Ife, Osun State which I completed in 2015. I won the prestigious West African College of Physicians’ 2015 S.F. Kuku Chairman’s Prize for the Best Part 2 (Fellowship) candidate in Internal Medicine.
I am a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians, a Member of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and the Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Nigeria (SOGHIN).
My area of special interest is in Hepatology with specific interest in Viral Hepatitis and Liver Cancers. I am also very interested and skilled in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Gastrointestinal Endoscopy procedures as well as in the Evaluation and Management of Pancreatico-Biliary Disorders. I am passionately interested in Clinical Research and I have some publications already to my credit in reputable international and local academic journals and I also review submitted manuscripts for some journals. I have attended various local and international conferences and workshops in the fields of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy.
Furthermore, I am actively involved in the Teaching and Training of Medical Students, House Officers (Interns) and Resident Doctors in General Internal Medicine as well as providing Mentorship to these junior medical colleagues. I am delighted to impact knowledge and to maintain by all means in my power, the honour and noble traditions of the medical profession.
I am at the forefront in the management of patients with decompensated chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma most of which are primarily as a result of chronic Hepatitis B virus infection. The clinical outcome in these patients is sadly generally very poor. There is a need to proactively drastically reduce the health burden posed by this vaccine preventable virus.
I have been actively involved in the various activities organized annually for the celebration of the World Hepatitis Day on every July 28th at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, Ekiti State. These activities include delivering lectures/health talks on Viral Hepatitis, free counselling, free screening for Hepatitis B and C, and creating public awareness about the Viral Hepatitides both within and outside the hospital community. I have also been involved in delivering health talks on various other public health topics in different fora. I am delighted to be a member of the Enlightenment Initiative on Viral Hepatitis.
