BIOSKETCH
Philomena is currently the Laboratory Manager for the African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) and a Harvard scholar. She has degrees in Medical laboratory Sciences, Environmental and Human Resource Management as well as a Biology degree in view. She is a scientist with well over 15 years of experience in the fields of emergent and re-emergent infectious diseases through diagnostics and research, using genomic-based tools. She is involved in building capacity of African scientists with technical know-how who would always be at the forefront in fighting the scourge of these diseases. She has worked in Victory laboratory and the Institute of Lassa fever Research and control Irrua Specialist Hospital. She has been at the forefront of the fight against infectious diseases (Lassa, Ebola, yellow fever, Monkeypox, COVID, and many others) in the country over the years. Having identified several challenges within her space and was desirous to see solutions provided, she came up with the idea of Smartscifrika to tell the stories of African scientists and mentor young scientists. She is currently a student at Harvard Extension school Boston MA.
