Ifeorah Ijeoma Mary is a research virologist and academic staff at the college of Medicine University of Nigeria Nsukka. She obtained her basic (Biomedical Laboratory Sciences) and post graduate degrees (MSc and Ph.D (Virology ) from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and University of Ibadan both in Nigeria. She is a cancer advocate and passionate about creating cancer prevention awareness among communities as way to reduce cancer burden in Nigeria. She is particularly an advocate of prevention and control of Viral hepatitis in Nigeria. through improved community surveillance. She is keen on seeing viral hepatitis research translate into policies that will help reduce the burden of the infection in Nigeria. She participates in various community HBV screening for a greater coverage, and She has been involved in community-based viral hepatitis surveillance, intervention campaigns and therapy monitoring and hopes for a national policy that will link screen positives to care using already existing services such as PMTCT and HIV care platforms in Nigeria. She has a particular interest in exploring HBV/HDV epidemiology, genetic variability and questions pertaining the pathogenesis of these viruses and how they impact on the clinical outcome of infection. She is hopeful that answers to these basic virology question will be impactful in control and management of infected patients. She has over 60 HBV sequences deposited in Genbank and over 25 peer reviewed article till date. Ifeorah Ijeoma lives in Abuja Nigeria with her lovely family and 2 adorable dogs.
