ENLIGHTENMENT ON VIRAL HEPATITIS (A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION)

MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES

Introduction

Enlightenment on Viral Hepatitis (EIVH) is a Nonprofit organization, with the  specific purpose of rendering services to the public by conducting research on various aspects of viral hepatitis, creating awareness on the need to reduce the rate of transmission in Nigeria. The donations/revenues gotten,will be used solely for the running of the organization (tax-exempt purpose, campaigns /awareness, office and administrative purposes).

Membership

According to the Model Nonprofit Corporation Act, “a Member” is a person in whose name a membership is registered on the records of the Organization, contributes to the organization and receives benefits such as a newsletter, early access to an event, or a chance to meet a beneficiary.

  1. No member is allowed to carry out any transaction in the name of the organization without the knowledge of the board members.
  2. All Members must adhere with recognized professional practices.
  3. All members must have respect for each other and for the organizations policies

Members vs. Volunteers

  1. Members have voting rights to elect directors and have a say on fundamental matters, while Volunteers do not.
  2. All volunteers Profiles would be duly documented

Organizational Documents 

  1. All documents of the organization is for and must remain in the organizations possession
  2. No member should be found using the organizations documents for personal transactions

Qualification

Membership is open to both Medical/ non-medical personal (Media, Advocacy, Research scientist, academia, with B.Sc. as the minimum qualification

Governing Rules 

  1. Members are required to participate in all events
  2. Members are to volunteer a certain number of hours for meetings whenever there’s a call

Donations

  1. All Donation request letters use to ask for donations from past and potential donors, must be done with the knowledge of the organization and must be on the organizations letterhead for best Practice
  2. Online giving’s, fundraising, text to give must be routed through the organization’s portal

Referral of partners:

All  partners and donors’ activity would be streamlined in one platform to aid easy operations, management and transparency

 Financial Duty

  1. Annual fees/dues may be required of all members
    (provisional membership-#5000, full-membership-# 10,000 and board of trustees.-15,000)
  2. No financial duty should be assigned to any person or group of persons without the knowledge of the management (This is a simple and effective way for protecting against fraud.)
  3. Every financial activity must be accounted for with proper records and receipts (any discrepancies in the numbers would be investigated)

Implementation  of  Code Of Ethics

Adherence to internal policies and controls will significantly improve our fraud protection. Implementing this code of ethics, will show our donors, board of directors, and the public how efficient, transparent and reliable the organization is

  1. Members must Promote compliance with regulations, statutes, and requirements
  2. Ensure Standardize practices across our different locations using a single health system.
  3. Reduce practice variation
  4. Reduce reliance on memory, which, when overtaxed, has been known to be a major source of human errors or oversights

Penalty for Not Abiding by Rules

The boards representatives would examine/investigate the case of a member that has broken one of our bylaws (gross mis-conduct, financial malpractices) If found guilty, necessary actions would be taken against such member.

Member resignation, termination, and suspension 

  1. All members must adhere to the rules and regulations of the organization
  2. A maximum of two number of warnings will be issued to erring member by the standard board before suspension and possible final termination of membership
  3. Final termination of membership will be executed after -the third warning and suspension. (this actions would be taken to enrich the quality of our membership experience and for the integrity of the organization. 
  4. Members are free to terminate their membership, after a thorough investigation and return of all organizations properties in their possession

Follow All instructions strictly

Your actions may affect the security of the organization, put the organization at risk of fraud, ruin and damage the integrity of the organization.
