BIOSKETCH

Dr. Lukman Abdulkareem is a Senior Consultant Physician/ Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Abuja. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Abuja, Abuja.
He obtained his first degree (MB.BS) from the College of Medicine, University of Ilorin.
He had his Residency/ Specialization training in Internal Medicine at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital. He sub-specialized in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and became a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians as well as the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. He has over fifteen years’ experience as a Physician and over five years’ experience as a Consultant/ Specialist. He belongs to a number of professional associations and has attended several conferences relating to liver diseases. Likewise, he has presented a number of conference papers and published a number of articles on viral hepatitis.
He has wealth of clinical experience in the treatment of liver diseases as well as other digestive tract diseases. Of special interest to him is the management of chronic viral hepatitis infections. He is an advocate of primary prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis to prevent the dreaded sequelae of cirrhosis and liver cancer. He has been involved with public enlightenment campaigns, screening programmes and continuous education of health-workers (including doctors) on viral hepatitis. He aligns with the World Health Organization’s goal of eradicating viral hepatitis. He looks forward to a hepatitis-free generation in the nearest future.
